low idle 96 t&c 3.8

My hubby put about a 1/4 tank of gas in today. it was pretty low before. He said that right after he put the gas in, it started to idle low when in park and at red lights. Other than that it runs smooth. When you sit you can smell that it is running rich.(gas smell). Any ideas?
