WRX OR WRX STi?

Im at a fork in the road.
I can get a 2004 WRX with 36,000 miles for $20,190
Or i can get a 2004 WRX STi with 16,630 miles for $27,000

I was wondering should i get the WRX for 20G and drop 7 grand into it. Or should i just get the STi and leave it stock?

Re: WRX OR WRX STi?

For $27,000, you could drive a brand new WRX off the lot AND have some money left to spend.

I have to second that. 2004 WRX with 36k for $20000?? That seems a bit high.

Re: WRX OR WRX STi?

Why do you want to spend $20,000 on a second hand car with 36,000 miles when you can buy a new car for $5,000 more?

The new WRX might be stickered for that much, but that's no what it's going for. A friend of mine pulled a 2004 WRX off the lot brand new for $22,500. It was stickered for $25+. If you play the dealership's game, you'll get it for cheaper. Just haggle with'em some and don't seem too desperate to get the car. It might take a week to get'em down to where you want'em, but you can do it within reason.

Listen to John.

You've obviously never purchased a car before....

Re: WRX OR WRX STi?

Actually i have. But the new ones are for some reason cheaper than the 02-05. Dont know why. The sticker for one i was looking at was almost 30k. I paid 10,800 for my cavi brand new. It had a sticker price of 18,xxx. So i have bought a car before.

Re: WRX OR WRX STi?

If you're talking about the "sticker price", you're starting off on a wrong foot. It's irrelevant what the sticker price is. What matters is what the dealer paid for and what you're going to pay for it. You don't start down from the MSRP, you always start from the dealer cost, and I mean dealer COST, not INVOICE.

Like Ray says, why pay 20,000 for a used car with 36k when you can buy brand new for a few grand more. If you're prepared to spend 27K for a used STI, you should seriously consider spending 24K ish for a brand new WRX.

Re: WRX OR WRX STi?

And I would not "haggle" at the dealer--a simple waste of time. What you do is "fax attack". You may want to google "fighting chance" and see what I mean.

I have spent a few hours faxing numerous dealers before I even walked into the dealership, and I drove off with a new car in less than 45 minutes at a dealer and I have not paid more than $200 over the dealer cost for my last 2 cars in the last 2 years (2004 WRX and my wife's 2005 Acura MDX). You need to erase "MSRP" and "sticker price" from you vocabulary--they mean nothing. And never, EVER, trade your car in at the dealer unless you want to lose another grand or two.

Are you referring to the website/book 'fighting chance'?

Re: WRX OR WRX STi?

I think it's a website. I'm not aware of the book.
