Question Installing Phoenix Gold Octane-R Component Speaks

I've purchased PG Octane-R 6.5 components speaks from eBay, "brand new". I have no problem installing the mids, but I'm going to need to cut a hole in my kickpanel to mount the tweeters. PG tries to be convenient by giving 3 mount housings: Angle and Surface (for those who don't want to cut holes out in their car) and a Flush mount housing. The tweets came already 'locked' in the flush housing, which i didn't mind cuz thats the mount i wanted anyway, but to secure it, i need to remove the tweeter from the housing, and drive a hexbolt through into a pronged spring retainer.

Here's my problem with the instalation:
1) as i said, the tweets are "locked" in that housing, i can't get em out (well, w/o damaging them i think.)
2) the retainer is shown in the manual to spread out with the ends on the same level as the center (think grappling hook, where the housing is secured by the center, and the arms/claws bend back and come forth again to grab the back of the kickpanel, so housing doesn't pop out) Thing is, those retainers look terribly misshaped. i wish i could show a pic.

Does anyone have this product that they can help me with? is the product supposed to be like this or is this really a problem? thanks ahead, and sry for the essay, just wanted to give as much details.
