Re: p1870 trouble code

Hey! I'm just a girl, too!

I'm not going to be as much help as the guys here, but since you know what the code was, you can only start there. P1870 says 'Transmission Component Slipping' -

You can pay to have a transmission place take a look at it, find what the problem is / problems are, and decide what to do from there.

Above, there's a post with codes, and this link has more information on transmission codes:

Is anything leaking? I just bought my Jimmy last month (a 95 w/157k on it, no less) and found out that some slackjawed idiot tried to repair a crack in the transfer case with what appears to be a combination of Bondo and JB Weld. Yes, I'm serious.

Have no fear; soon enough, one of these really smart Jimmy forum guys will have a list of suggestions for you. They always do.

Re: p1870 trouble code

Good Start Bruised Orange,

This code is often set due to overheating inside the transmission. Extended periods of stop and go driving may also cause this code. Common symptoms associated with this code are harsh shifting from first to second gear and/or no overdrive or fourth gear. These symptoms are caused by an increase in transmission pressure in order to compensate for the internal slippage. Sometimes a complete transmission service including a fluid flush and refill can remedy this problem. In extreme cases, a transmission rebuild or replacement is required.

Re: p1870 trouble code

With 96 and newer vehicles this code is commonly set due to wear in the valve body. If the condition goes to long without being fixed it can do permenent damage to the tranny and require a rebuild or replacement.

Re: p1870 trouble code

It is a bad news code. Trans component slipping.
And the code just did not show up for the first time 2 days after you got it.
The person that traded it off and or the dealer that sold it to you also knowed about the code or problem.
It probably has had the code or has been doing it for a while.
If you have any warranty on it take it back to whoever sold it to you and ask them to fix it.
Let them know that you know the jimmy did not dicide to set the code 2 days after you bought it.
It had that problem before you got it and someone knowed it.
