Question Timing belt failure

Own a 2000, 300M Chrysler with 4.6 liter engine. Timing belt failed. Is it normal for belt tensioners to fail as well or for valves to crash into pistons? Looking for second opinion before dishing out $2000.Total mileage: 80000 miles.

Re: Timing belt failure

Are you sure you have a 4.6? The 300M only comes w/ the 3.5 V6. Anyway, the timing belt on that engine is supposed to be replaced at 105,000 mile intervals so you belt went premature. The tensioners don't usually fail causing the belt to jump time and cause interference between valves & pistons. I'd be willing to bet that you had either an oil leak or coolant leaking onto the belt causing it to break b/c it weakened the belt.
