OBD II Codes.
I have a '01 X5. I am trying to find out more information on the codes. I threw two recently. P0491 & P0492 Secondary Air bank one and bank two. Any help would be great or where I can find out more about the codes.
Love to find a shop manual on the car also.

Those two faults are almost always the air pump. The diverter valve should be changed at the same time

Re: OBD II Codes.
It should be covered under new vehicle warranty, also if you have CPO it might possibly be covered. Other then that I believe the pump is around 300$ and the valve is something like 100$

Re: OBD II Codes.
The computer does not see a change in the o2 readings when it turns the airpump on to test it.
Possible problems are a bad air pump (full of water?),a bad airpump relay, a bad check valve, a bad vac control solenoid that supplies vac to the air control valve,a vac hose problem, or a bad solenoid itself. The airpump is located in the right front of the engine compartment. It should run when the engine is first started cold. If you dont know how to check the system from this info then you will need to have your mechanic have a look. |

Thanks for all the help I plan on looking at it today. I do wish BMW sold their shop manuals.

Re: OBD II Codes.
Thanks to all of your help I have fixed my car. I found a vacuum line that had broken. Clipped off the bad end and plug it back on the solenoid an d the check engine light has not come on for several days now.
