How can I get a spare key for 540i ??
Hi I wonder If anyone can help me, I live in the U.K. and have a 1998 BMW 540i.
I only had one key for this car when I bought it 2 months ago. I have been to the BMW dealers and thay say they cannot cut me a spare key as the locks on the vehicle have been replaced without their knowledge. I suspect the locks have been forced at some time and the proevious owner replaced them with second hand locks. I have been to a couple of local locksmiths and they tell me its main dealer only due to the transponder chip inside the key. Can anyone help me with a suggested locksmith or key specialist? many thanks..kel

no, you have to go to your local BMW dealership and bring your title and registration with you, and have the key with you, they will ask you for your title and registtration, then they will special order a key
