Exclamation I'm stumped! PLEASE HELP!!

I have a 1989 cavalier 4-cyl. What my car is doing is when I start it, sometimes it starts on the first try, but occasionally, I will get a click, and then it starts on the second try. Sometimes, I get 2 clicks and then it starts. It probably has something to do with the starter, but I am not sure. I have replaced the starter about a year and a half ago. I don't think it would go that fast. Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Also, in the morning, or after my car sits for about 6-8 hrs., I have to start it and let it heat up before I can drive it because if I start it and leave, it shudders when I stop at a light, and I don't give it gas, it stalls. Sometimes, when I give it gas when the light turns green, the rpm's drop real low, the car backfires and pops, and it really struggles to get going. I put the gas pedal to the floor, but it doesn't want to go. A couple of times, it stalled right in the middle of the intersection. Most of the times, it struggles for a few seconds, and then I peel out because the pedal is to the floor. I have been told it might be the egr valve, the iac valve, or the pcv valve. Please tell me where I can find the iac valve, because I know where the egr and the pcv valves are, but I don't know where the iac valve is. I have a chilton's book, but it doesn't help with this.

in regards to the clicking, get your brushes (or whatever the technical term is) replaced in the starter, and you should be good to go.... don't let them make you pay for a whole new one when the only thing that needs replacing are brushes - bastards!

Re: I'm stumped! PLEASE HELP!!

They dont rebuild anything these days.. just R&R.

next time it happens, hit the starter with a hammer if it starts right up after that then replace that starter. if it doesn't then it may be the connections to it.
it could also be contacts for it.. they are made of brass and sometimes they get full of shit and or break and they dont make full contact to spin the starter or some shit.. cant remember. basicailly take it apart yourself and see if anything is messed up.

when was the last time you replaced your Fuel Filter?

I replaced it about the same time. My car was stalling at red lights when I stopped. I brought it to a garage and they changed the fuel filter the first time, a valve the second time(I don't remember which one), but the problem was (I found it on this site) was the tcc solenoid.
