Power Top Doesn't

Hi all -

First, this is my first post on this site, so I'd like to say "hi" to everyone. Looks like a nice place, I'm looking forward to reading through everything here. That may take a while, though...

Anyway, I just picked up an '89 Lebaron GTC convertible. It has a power top, but it doesn't work all that well. The top will go about halfway down, then slow down to a crawl. If you push it down it goes, but it won't go on it's own. Then it won't come back up on it's own.

The guy I bought it from said he thinks that the power top pump needs fluid. Could that be right? If so, how do you (me, really) add fluid to the pump? Or would I be better off just replacing the pump?

top troubles

Had similar problems on my 92. I replaced the top motor. It takes about an hour to get the motor out and an hour back in. With the top up you can take the fabric out of the top well and lift out the cardboard liner under the fabric. Once this is out the top motor is easily accessable. I bought my motor from a guy at e-mail [email protected]. The transaction went well I mailed him the old motor and a check he sent a rebuilt motor back. You can e mail him to ask questions. He should be able to help you out.
