Transmission doesnt shift right

My 93 Jeep Cherokee 4.0L 4x4 does not shift right. I have to run it up to about 3000 rpms and let off the gas really fast to get it to shift. It will manually shift up until it needs to go to OD. In order to get to overdrive I have to get up to about 60-70 mph. This is not safe in the city of Jacksonville, NC. Does anyone have any ideas?????

Re: Transmission doesnt shift right

I'd say your governor is acting up. Go to a transmission shop and have them check the pressure of the governor. Another thing to check out would be your throttle valve connection at the transmission itself, make sure it's properly adjusted and not way out of alignment.
