Transmission and Oil coolers

I have a 2003 GA GT 3400. Im thinking of getting a transmission cooler kit and an oil cooler kit. Does anyone know anything as to why I shouldn't get it? It seems like hard work but I think it might be worth it. This maybe one life-line before many that I will need to do to keep it going for a long time. Suggestions? Thanks!

Mike

There's nothing wrong with adding a transmission cooler kit, but unless you live in a really hot area or do alot of heavy towing, an oil cooler isn't going to benefit you very much as the engines are designed to run fairly cool anyway. I have 244k miles on my grand am, and i don't have either one and I have not had any problems related to either the transmission overheating or the oil overheating.

Re: Transmission and Oil coolers

Heat is the enemy of both engines and transmissions especially transmissions. A transmission cooler is a good choice as it will eliminate a lot of heat and should extend the life of your transmission. As for the oil cooler they can also extend the life of your engine but are not absolutely necessary for good engine operation. However, if you do a lot of city driving then the cost would be worth it since it will decrease the overall heat in the engine and make it run cooler.
