96 escort lx wagon 1.9L auto 75000 miles. Had car about 4 months. Check engine light came on (car runs fine) didn't have obd2 reader ($150.00) and as I recently bought a locking gas cap and replaced the fuel filter I disconnected battery to see if it came back (don't say I shouldn't do it) two days later it came back on. Wife (her car) took it down to have it read at parts store and they said it wouldn't read. They were sure that the reader was good as they had used it the day before. I have learned about the transition betwwen obd 1 & 2 and know some cars have obd 1 but have obd 2 connector. Decal says made 2/96. Hope its not that. Any ideas??
