92 Seville Engine Noise

I've owned a '92 Seville STS with 60,000 miles on it for 6 months. Many times, while starting, I hear a loud violent banging coming from the engine compartment. The noise quits after about 8-10 seconds. My mechanic cannot discover the source. Any ideas?

My 92 does that too, one mechanic told me it was an exhaust problem. Two pieces of the exhaust slapping otgether.
