Ut-oh. Cold weather, there goes the idle

Hi,

I'm new to the Automotive forums. I'm hoping to get a little help here with my '00 Durango 4X4.

It seems that each year for the past two years now when the temperatures get below around 40-50 degrees the idle starts to go a little wierd on me. The motor, when idling, revs up and then down, up and down, up and down... by a few hundred RPM's. When I first start the truck up it rev's way up over 2K RPM's before backing off then does the RPM rev dance. When stopped at a traffic light sometimes if I don't have my foot on the brake hard enough, the motor will surge and cause the truck to leap forward, which freaks me out a little During the summer and warmer season this problem does not occur. But here in central NY we have 3 seasons where temps dip into or stay less than 40 or so. Oh, maybe this is important, maybe not, it does this regardless if the vent is set on "A/C", "OFF" or anything in between.

Any ideas?

The idle air control valve is bad of course.

Thought I'd start with the cheaper TPS sensor. I replaced that and wiped the carbon off the IAC while I was there. The D has been running great since that and I've even noticed improved gas mileage, thanks to the help found in this forum!
