Transmission

I have a 1999 Intrepid, 3.2L engine, Autostick transmission. For the past 2 days, I've noticed the following. In the morning, back up out of my driveway fine, put it it drive, goes fine, slow down after about 20 feet to make a turn, and when I accelerate to go down the street, the transmission acts like it's in neutral, for anywhere from 3 to 10 seconds. It then kicks into gear, and goes fine the rest of the day. Suggestions and how much money am I looking at for any possible fixes. Thanks!

Re: Transmission

Check your fluid level.
Sounds like low fluid.
Only put ATF+4 in it if you add.
Put Dextron/Mercron in it if you want to have it rebuilt (it will ruin it in a hurry).
If you recently added fluid to it and now it is slipping, there is a chance that it has the wrong fluid. I had a similar problem with a '00 Caravan.

Thanks for that. I forgot to mention it has 107,000 miles, and I bought it with 96,000. I should have had the transmission fluid and filter replace by now, but haven't gotten around to it yet. I'll try that first.
