92 H22A Hatch Flooded
So i got my car flooded during Hurricane Katrina. And I wanna get it to run because my dads van got flooded also and it ran fine. So i wanted to know what i should do because the water got into the relay box under the hood and under the dash. Should i just go ahead and replace all the fuses? Because i cant even jump start the vehicle because the battery fuse is blown. I flushed all the fluids out already just have to refill it back up. Is there anything else that would cause the car to have no battery, even if i try to jump start it?

Re: 92 H22A Hatch Flooded
Uhh... I would take the head off and make sure water didn't manage to get into the cylinders. Water doesn't compress, and pistons not moving with the crankshaft, equals bent rods.
Sounds like you've got some work to do... Just take it one step at a time, and make sure you've got everything covered before you try to start it up. That's just my advice. -Wes

Re: 92 H22A Hatch Flooded
my opinion do not make any thing with your self and dont try to start it up just try to fetch a makaniz ( motor man ) to chek the engine is ok. and the fetch the electric man to check all the electric and the ecu and change what have to change before start up.

Re: 92 H22A Hatch Flooded
I'm trying to figure out what Hany said... If I'm understanding him correctly, I assume he's saying don't do anything yourself, and find a Mechanic to look at it for you.
Either way will work just fine. But I'd rather see for myself. -Wes

yes i know that water wotn compress. Thats why i took out the spark plugs and tried to crank it so water would come out. But i dont have power at all. My question is what could cause for no power? battery damage? blown battery fuse?

You need to replace fuses, relays, etc. And sorry to say this, but you also need to go over every electrical connection that got wet, dry it out, and put the electric conducting grease in it to try to ward off rust, otherwise some months from now you could have fun with bad connections.

Re: 92 H22A Hatch Flooded
if u'r under dash fusebox and under hood fuse box got wet, then u'r ECU got soaked too, and that is done for. all u'r electrical is basicly shot because if u got the salt water in that stuff, everything shorted out. after u have made sure there is NO water in the cylinders or the crankcase, and that u have a good battery and a good engine ground to the battery, try jumping the starter by touching power directly from the battery positive to the positive of the starter. at least u'll know the starter is fine and the engine will turn over. if the starter doesn't even try to engage, then u know u need a starter. then u can dive into the electrical. prolly need a main relay and an ecu to start. mostlikely a lot of new fuses.
like i said and everyone else, make sure u have NO water anywhere in the engine other than where it is supposed to be (cooling system). there's no point in getting all the electrical sorted out and then crank the motor right into hydro-lock.

Make sure that your Main fuse is still good. If that blows then nothing will work. Thats the first thing i would do. Do go spending money on crap that you may not need done.

where is your insurance coverage? that thing is a goner. if your going to keep it, you will have alot of corrosion to deal with now and later down the future in the wiring terminals and connections. not to mention the rust you will have.
if it were me, id try to salvage what parts i can and move on.
