2002 intrepid tranny

I have a 2002 intrepid and have experienced tranny problems in the past week. From time to time the tranny will stick in 2nd gear if I turn the car off and restart it will correct the problem for a while. I have bben told it is the speed sensor. But I have had no problems with the speed o meter. I have had others tell me the tranny needs to be rebuilt

Question Me, too!

I have the same problem on my 2001. I have replaced both sensors only to find that the installation of the new sensors did not correct the problem.
I'd really appreciate the feedback from any knowledgable mopar techs!!

Re: 2002 intrepid tranny

your solenoid packs are probably failing. Go to your local Dodge/Chrysler dealer and have them hook up your cars to the Chrysler DRB III scanner. It can manually test the solenoid pack to see if there are any faulty solenoids(s) or pressure switches. Also another question I must you both, have you had your transmissions serviced recently? If you have and you didn't use Mopar ATF+4, you could be having the same problem your having now. These transmissions are very sensitive as to the type of fluid you use, it clogs the passages of your solenoid pack and causes haywire to the solenoid pack.

I have had the solenoid checked an it is fine according to the computer. is the computer pretty reliable. As far as the service I have not had service in the tranny recently. I did have the brakes replaced, but that should have no affect. Unless they added to the tranny fluid during the oil change. It was shortly after the service that this started. Any advice

Re: 2002 intrepid tranny

if you don't have a check engine light on, I would suggest going to your local auto part store or to a shop that has access to a scanner and see if there are any trouble codes stored in memory for the transmission. On 2002 and later models, the Transmission Control Module is integrated to the Powertrain Control Module, supposedly it's to simplify things and make the tranny computer more reliable. I have not seen too many transmission troubles on 2000+ Intrepid, but it wouldn't hurt to get the codes checked out if there are any.
