Intermediate Steering Shaft....OUCH!

Well, my 03 Silverado w/38K got so annoying that i had to have the shaft replaced... it was "regreased" at around 12K. The local dealer put in a new shaft and the problem seems to be resolved. My pocket book is $287.70 lighter... my after market warranty would not cover the part based on their interpretation of our contract. I assure you that the savings in warranty coverage using this company has not been offset by the current difficulties. My advice is stick with manufacturers (GM) warranties.

You should save your receipt just in case G.M. does do a recall on this part and you can collect your money later. Our 2001 Silverado had less than 26,000 miles but was out of warranty because of time. Our shaft was getting very noisey and I called G.M. customer service and they told me to call our dealer and they replace the part at no cost to us. The guy at G.M. said they know that there is a problem and they are replacing them on case by case basis.

Thanks for the info... could you forward the phone number of the person you talked to, maybe I can shame them into paying for mine as well. TIA

The number I called was 1-800-222-1020. The person I talked to told me that they know there is a problem but I should call our dealer first. I did not do that at first because I knew the warranty had expired and did not want to bother them.

When I did talk to our service manager he said no problem but I should get it done as soon as possible. I think you should call your service manager and tell him that you heard G.M. was going to pay for these repairs and see what he does. He may just be the lazy type and does not want to do any extra work.

If nothing else keep your receipt and they might pay for it latter. We are involed in a class action law suit with another manufacturer about their intake manifols on their engines and as long as we have the receipt from 2 years ago if the courts decide againt them next month we can still collect even if we have sold the car, just as long as we can prove we paid for the repairs.
