Question Ongoing problem with loss of power (NW Illinois)

Ok my fellow dsmers...
I've done a lot of research on this problem i have been running into. I am yet to find a solution, so here it goes....
when i first purchased my 91 eclipse gst it ran great and pushed 13 pounds of boost fine (accordinf to my autometer boost gauge. After a short amount of time it began to have an occasional loss of power, which was accompanied by a hesitation when under a slight amount of throttle (generally only at low rpm's). Over time, the loss of power would occur more and more often. Now it is a constant loss of power through all rpm's, and I'm only pushing 10 pounds of boost. I have done a few things and they are as follows:
*rewire fuel pump
*occasional boost leak checks (leak was found and tubing was replaced)
*pulled out ecu and visually inspected it (it appeared to be in good working order and didn't smell of anything odd)
*visually inspected timing belt (dint know what i was planning on accomplishing by it )
*replaced injectors
*replaced fuel filter
*removed boost restrictor in solenoid
*replaced fuel pressure regulator
*swapped out plug wires and that made no difference
*replaced spark plugs with ngk bpr6es (i think thats the number at least) and no change
The fellow i purchased my eclipse from said carmax did a compression test and it came out good (dont know how credible that is). I've stumped quite a few people with this one and it's quite unsettling. I'm sure all of u dsmers remember what its like the first time u hit boost in your dsm and the exhilaration u get from it. I only wish to return my baby to it's former glory and be able to blow away all those all-to-familiar riced-out rust-buckets that are parading around my city with egos bigger than their coffe-can mufflers, and roll with my fellow dsmers with pride. Anybody who can supply any amount of advice will live a long and prosperous life and enjoy the fruits of nature (or something along those lines ). Honestly tho, im really in a bind with this problem and i would appreciate any help. Thanks all who took the time to read this and thanks automotiveforums for this incredible web site.
P.S. If anybody lives in northwestern illinois, eastern iowa (Dubuque area), or southern wisconsin and would be willing to sacrifice some of your time to help a friend let me know on this site or give me a call at (563) 543-3252

*I gapped my plugs correctly
*Boost leak test was done from the turbo inlet
*I'm going to check for shaft play today or tomorrow
*i don't have a check engine light
*im not losing fluids
*theres no exhaust smoke
*the vacuum at warm idle is 22 on the autometer gauge
*Is there a way to see if ive jumped a tooth and wouldnt it run very poorly if it did?

The car basically pulls like a non-turbo in high rpm's

Re: Ongoing problem with loss of power (NW Illinois)

Are you sure your wastegate didn't take a shit? You could have some big cracks around WG opening allowing exhaust gasses to bypass the turbine. Or the damn thing could be partially stuck open.

What mods do you have?

EDIT> Your coolant temp or IAT sensor could have crapped out and causing you to run in limp mode, although that normally causes a CEL.

Do you have, or have access to, a logger?

Well i inspected my wastegate and it appears to be in good working condition (I also toyed around with it for a bit like opening and closing it with my thumb and there didnt appear to ba anything seriously wrong with it). I also checked my turbo for any play and there was none at all.

Re: Ongoing problem with loss of power (NW Illinois)

Might want to run your own compression test, just for "piece of mind". When you checked for shaft play, did you happen to give the compressor wheel a spin? It looks like you covered all of the bases I can think of, but I'm no expert.

If you're lucky, Kevin will stop by and offer some assistance.

Hang on.....I just reread your last post. You mean that you could move the wastegate arm with your finger?? I was playing around with my old T25 after it was removed and I had to put a lot of force on the arm to get the wastegate flapper to move. I think you might have found your problem if you can move it easily.

When i opened the wastegate with my thumb it took a little force to open it....it didnt just pop open easily.

Also, when i spun the compressor wheel it seemed to spin fine, but is it suppose to keep spinning for a few seconds? mine only spins for about a half a second. So u say Kevin might stop by and offer some assistance? I take it he lives in this area?

That sounds right for the compressor wheel, I just checked the T-25 I have in the back of the Mustang and that's exactly what it did.

As for Kevin (GSXRacer), I meant that he might stop by this thread and offer his advise. He is our resident DSM Expert!

I really don't know about the wastegate, I really had to put some force into opening mine. It's hard to tell over the internet.
