Hood latch blues cure...

I've seen several cases where the hood latch release cable has stretched; making it seemingly impossible to open the hood. Here's some hints on fixing the problem.

First, if you are locked out now, get help -- have someone push down on the H logo while you pull. This often get the hood open.

There's no adjustment on the cable, so while you can always buy a whole new one.......

There are several ways to take up the slack. At the dashboard end, you can slip the jacket ferrule out of its slotted hole and rest it on the bracket. This may be good enough.

The better fix is on the hood end. Pull the bumper [Easy! 2 screws on each fender lip, 1 screw on each turn signal, and 2-3 13mm bumper bolts behind the turn signal per side -- a 6 minute job...] to see the latch.

Unbolt the latch from the radiator support bracket. Observe the little ball at the end.

Now, get several 10-32 BRASS nuts. Cut a slot in each with a Dremel or a hacksaw so the hollow O is now a C. Slide over the cable just before the end ball and SQUEEZE them shut; they should slide on the cable but not fall off.

This will tighten the cable up enough so the handle swing will open the latch.

Lube the cable and the latch; screw back in & away you go...

Re: Hood latch blues cure...

Nice idea man! Both my 4th gens require two people to open the damn hoods.

Now I just need to get some sort of motivation to do it..

When i had my crx like a year and a half ago, the cable was snapped and the guy i got it from didnt put the time into fixing it so they just put a peice of wire to pull on. Dumb as hell. Good post i like it.
