Question Audio Question

My friend got tierd of her Radio being stolen out of her car(twice now) and wanted to just have a jack for plugging in an MP3 player. (standard headphone jack). What parts would be needed to hook this up to the stock speakers. I am assuming some sort of amplifier will be needed, volume controll will be done by the device. Any imput would be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Audio Question

You'd need an amp for the speakers and a simple 1/4" stereo to rca cable (you can get them at best buy for like $3).

Re: Audio Question

stock speakers?

something around 20-30x2 @ 4ohm should be more than enough, if you can find one that small

Re: Audio Question

depends on vehicle. It may already have a stock amp. and no, sr20de4evr, You are way mor knowledgable on this than I am, but you will want something about 30 watts rms per channel, and you'll want 4 channels, not 2. Maybe that was just a typo on your part.

Re: Audio Question

hah, sorry, I'm so used to front stage-only setups that I put 30x2. Yeah, if she wants to use all 4 speakers then she'll want a 20-30x4 @ 4ohm amp.

Re: Audio Question

ha, yeah, but its a sony. It should be pretty striaghtforward to wire in, although, its easier for a theif to steal an amp that isnt bolted down tight, versus a cd deck thats bolted in. Maybe buy another deck, and invest in a security system. You can get decks that have inputs for certain mp3 players, I know I can buy an adapter for my pioneer deh-p6500 so I can plug an ipod directly to it, and controll the ipod from the deck. If I had an ipod it may be worth it. Just a thought.

Re: Audio Question

The last deck that was stolen looked stock, and was shitty. This thing gets parked in Hartford so a security system wont do it much good, and everything that gets wired in will be hidden from sight entirly, she just wants like just a jack vissable and it to be cheap.
Thanks for the Imput so far

Re: Audio Question

They stole the shitty deck, and left the 2 digital cameras in the center console, the $20 bill in the cupholder, and the 80or so CDs.... so she doesnt want to put a new deck in at all.
