Unhappy 89 Integra Trouble starting when warm

I have an 89 RS, almost 200K but well cared for. When the car is at operating temp, if it is shut off for five or ten minutes, it has trouble starting. Specifically, the fuel pump will prime, engine turns over and starts as usual, then within a few seconds dies. 70% of the time, the pump will not prime if i immediatly try to restart the engine, nor will the ECU show any indication of starting (no initial flash, nothing). After a couple minutes, the system seems to reset, the fuel pump primes, and, with no discernable pattern, the engine will either continue to run or may die again, just like the first time. When the fuel pump does prime, the ECU shows an intial flash (standard start-up, i think) and then no code flashes. This has been a recurring problem for 3 months. However, a few days ago, the O2 sensor signal began flashing on the ECU (01). Related problem? I don't know. Otherwise, there are no problems. Engine doesn't miss, doesn't burn oil, no abnormal fuel use, no blown fuses. I don't know if this is a problem with the ignition coil, one of the sensors going screwy, a clogged vacume line...I don't know. I would appreciate any insights you may have before i start randomly laying down time and money to replace things that don't need replaced. Thanks

Re: 89 Integra Trouble starting when warm

if the ignition components have not been changed out, its time to get up to date with your basic maintenece schedule for a start.

as for the o2 sensor, not related to not starting, but, will hurt your gas mileage.

Re: 89 Integra Trouble starting when warm

Thanks for the reply. Standard maintenance schedule followed, i.e. rotor, dist. cap, plugs, wires, etc. replaced as per spec, as far as ignition coil (has been suggested as possible problem source) that hasn't been changed, nor have any sensors. Also has idle speed at 300 to 500 after warm. Am thinking possibly EACV has buildup in vac line(another suggestion made to me) Will post any changes when EACV checked.

Re: Re: 89 Integra Trouble starting when warm

OK, have replaced:

O2 sensor (unrelated, but needed doing)
Plugs, Dist. cap, rotor
Igniter
Ignition Coil

ECU oxy code gone.

Other problems still there (Dies when restarting after warm, etc, etc.)

And I'm starting to get pissed

Check your main relay

It's a very very very common problem with the early model Acura (aka Honda), there's a guy from a G1Teg site, that sells re-soldered main relays for $20. Or you can resolder them yourself.

http://autorepair.about.com/cs/troub.../aa010301a.htm

Members there swear by them...I know, I have two G1's with 196,000 and one with 256,000, both run fine.

Teg's had to start somewhere.
