Quirky Electircal issues

I'v got 170,000 on this 2wd SUV and love it.....

2 Problems on my 99 Rodeo that you guys might be able to help with...

First- my Alarm will no longer allow me to unlock all doors, I hit it the first time to unlock the drivers door ( no problem ) but the the second push will no longer unlock the rest of the doors.....

Any suggestions ????

Second- My little clock no longer lights up, so at night I cant check the time.... and yes I do own a watch...its just bugging me...

What do you guys think???

You might have a bad relay in your alarm system.

You probably need to replace the bulb that illuminates the clock.

If that's the same clock as in the '01, I was having electrical issues as well - turns out that some bad soldering (from whomever manufactured the clock) was shorting out my illumination controller by sending the dimmer switch line to ground at the clock. The best way to remedy this is to either get a new clock and install it, or leave it as is (burned out). Also, if the clock is the same as the 01, it doesn't have a changeable bulb

The alarm seems like a different problem. If it was a blown relay,it probably wouldn't work at all. Does your power door lock relay/control module work correctly when you try it manually? That might be a good place to start.

The clock issue is super common on the 1998+. You are lucky yours lasted that long! You have to either pull the dash bezel & replace the whole clock, or gut the clock & solder in a new lamp. I'd leave it! Not sure about the unlocking thing. Will the remote lock ALL the doors, but only unlock the drivers?
G/luck

Taking things apart is fun! Especially if there is soldering involved. I like to solder.

Re: Quirky Electircal issues

Thanks for the replys

As for the Alarm, I can still lock all the doors with 1 push of the remote and my controlls inside work fine.

Could it be a blown fuse?
or
where should I start?

also- it sounds like the clock will stay without a light.

Check out the thread started by mckpaul on "Intermittent wiper problem" there is mention of a remote entry box in it. May help.......may not.
