Same thing happen to my '93. It was the Ignition Module in the distributor. If you remove the Distributor cap and rotor, all you have to do is remove the two screws and un-plug the harness clips to remove it. Some Autozone stores can actually test the Module OUT of the truck. When I replaced mine for approx. $35 USD, the problem was solved.
Oh and BTW, Don't let the counter help tell you that ignition modules either work or they don't, or that heat has no effect on them because if they tell you this, (A) they're full of crap, and (B) they don't know what they're talking about. I have had to replace the Ignition Module in my 93 twice and both times it did what yours is doing (Heating up and shutting off) and both times replacing the module was the fix.
