Fuel Pump

I was wondering if my fuel pump didn't have enough presure, would that cause the car from not turning on. the presure is under 20 psi. once in a while if u crank the car it starts up fine but it will turn off. i have new Injectors New fuel Filtter do u guys think my fuel pump is my problem because i don't wana pay $300.00 for nothing and they don't take them back when you use them.

thanks

Re: Fuel Pump

FYI - the fuel filter get power through a relay and alternately through the oil pressure sensor. just something else to check.

see if you can duplicate the issue with the pressure gauge hooked up.

have you checked your fuel pressure regulator? A full failure of the FPR can cause your sympoms.

thanks for replying so the fuel pump does not have all that presure. and when u talk about relay are u talking about fuses and could my oil pressure sensor be bad and where is that located

i don't think its a FPR beacause that was changed 1 1/2 months ago

Re: Fuel Pump

there are many things to considder here. if your oil pressure is low (maby due to bad oil pressure sensor) the the fuel pump will not run. a nice feature if you think about it. whith a cold engine your sensor may read sufficient pressure from cold, thick oil but when the oil gets a little warmer the sensor shuts down the fuel pump.

for that matter it could be a bad oil pump although i have never heard of a northstart's oil pump going bad.

when the car does start does it run smooth b4 it shuts down and is there a check engine light while it IS running?

If it runs rough when it DOES start then it could be contaminated fuel and another clogged fuel filter.

how many mile do you have on the car? fuel pumps dont last forever - i did mine at 120,000 miles but only because my gas gauge was wacky.
