95 Cherokee starting problems
My problem sounds very similar to the previous heading with the same name. The car wil start and run as long as I keep my foot on the gas. If If pull it off, it stops running. It seems to be a switch or relay since if I gun the engine, something seems to shake loose and it continues to run.
It will stay running the rest of the trip without a problem. The chance of this happening is much higher when it is hot. I don't like the idea of gunning the engine in the morning so I try to coaxe it into working by slowly running it for a long time. It will sometimes come on then, but this is tricky as too little gas and it will stall. The engine is a 4 cyclinder 2.5 liter with multi-port fuel injection. After looking at the Haynes manual for it, I think it may be the auto-shutdown relay but don't quite know what these relays do, same for the ballast resistor relays. I have done the replace things one-by-one in the past and know it doesn't work. Anybody else have a clue? |

Re: 95 Cherokee starting problems
you could have a clogged intake or some other type of restriction or your air filter might be dirty. The other possibility is a weak battery.

Could also be your IAC, when you gun it it does exactly what you think, shakes the piston in it loose so the engine will idle. Try cleaning it 1st, but replacement will eventually be on tap.

I would begin by checking the fuel supply. Could be a clogged filter.
When you rev the engine it will pull more gas through, thus freeing up the filter a little bit in short time it will settle. |
