Locking Problem
I have a 2003 525i. The doors will not lock with the button on the key. Nor will they lock when the button on the center consol is pressed. Also the interior lights are not coming on when the doors are opened. Fuses are all OK.

does the interor lights not come on with any doors open or just one? do the other funtions of the remote work?

I recently had this same problem with my 02 530I after I replaced the battery. I ended up taking it in to a shop that works on BMWs and they told me that somehow the vehicle went into Transport mode. That is why the alarm, lights, locks were not working. They had to reprogram the control modules and take it out of Transport mode. They got the car working normally and charged me 1.5 hours of labor ($120). It probably took them half that time but the cost was not unreasonable, especially because no replacement parts were involved. Good luck.
