Opinion on Corolla
Thinking of buying a new Corolla and would appreciate some feedback/opinions on this car. (Not necessarily a comparison to other vehicles)
What are the common problems? Are you happy with it? Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks, Mark |

Re: Opinion on Corolla
Not sure of what year you want but you will get good gas mileage out of them. If you take care of it, it should last quite a while. I have a 91 and its still running brand new.

Thanks, either 2005 or 2006, depending what's available at the dealership. I assume it is the same body style for the last few years. What year did the current body style start?

Re: Opinion on Corolla
i think it was something like 2001 or 2003..
from what i've heard from a 20 years experience toyota mecanic that i know well ( and i agree with him), the best years were 1993-1997 with the 4AFE and 7AFE. the newer models sometimes need pistons replaced because they knock/clack/ slap when cold..which is more annoying than damaging but still.. at 25000 CDN $ i wouldn't want a car that runs like a diesel... my old 89 at - 30 degree oudside, you couldn't even hear a valve or lifter tapping. they really are tough cars. Deadring

Re: Opinion on Corolla
if you want one of the new model corollas and looking for the "speed" feel to it, the XRS is one of the best options out there, i believe the XRS only comes as a manual transmission but its worth it if you still feel that "need for speed" tingling, but if you're buying for your wife or just need a car to cruise around with, then the Type S is not a bad choice either, there are more options out there, i believe the Corolla VE or CE. Corollas are very reliable and it all depends on what your options are, i.e: how much you're willing to spend, mpg, big or small trims, etc etc.
