ignition switch
I decided to install a new ignitiion switch. Because I purchased the car from an auction. And never got the original key. I was afraid the original ower might try to steal the car back. I ordered a new switch using the parts number from a parts list, I purchased from ebay. When I received the new switch, I knew something was wrong, because the new key didn't have the resister pellet on it. My Aurora manual says the pellet matches a decoder in the car. I tried it on the car anyway. When I turned the key, the power came on, but nothing else. So I am putting the original switch back on. Is the dealer the only one, that can install a new switch with the pass key 2 system?? gmpartsdirect said the switch is a non returnable item. So seems like I am out of almost $80 bucks.

Okay problem solved. After e-mailing gmpartsdirect. they told me new ignition switches doesn't come with the pass keys. they only come with cut blanks, so a dealer can cut a new key based off the original pass key resistance value. When I went to the dealer, the technician was busy.So I went to a reputable locksmith. He had blank keys with the pellet embedded in them. He used the blank keys that I had, to cut the pass keys that he had. And programed them with the resistance value. They cost $25 dollars apiece, but the dealer probably would have charged more. I reinstalled the new switch. Tried to start it,and would you believe it, Aurora cranked right up. Sweet!!
