AC/AUX Fan Question

Before you start thinking, "What a stupid question.", realize that this is my first BMW and I just bought it a little over a month ago. (she is a beauty, by the way).

Anyway - I bought a 01 530 with 48k miles and I have noticed, even during the initial test drive, that a somewhat loud electric fan was running up front (like an Aux cooling fan). The sales weenie said that this is the AC fan and that it runs when the AC is on. Indeed it does and for the most part turns off when you kill the AC, but I have never seen this on other vehicles I have owned. Is this normal? Is this fan suppose to run like this?

Thanks Much.

Re: AC/AUX Fan Question

being that i cannot hear this to tell if it is too loud i would say this is normal operation of the fan on all bmws they are loud but as i stated it may be too loud. maybe you want to take it in and have it looked at if it bothers you
