Talking Re: 2OO4 Pontiac Grand Prix

Hey that is the car that I have . I just bought mine used with 48,000 miles on it. The 04<+ have a engine timer on them and taking the mileage dividing by the time on the eingine the average speed was 49 mph... So i knew that the dealer was not lying to me when he said highway miles Good thing to check! BUt as far as the car goes do a search on my posts and you will see all I had to say about the 04 GTPs. The dislikes and likes. The car is really fun to drive! the TAP shifter works REALLY well. I have read that car magizines really like this one as opposed to other manufactures in that it actually shifts when you tell it to! I use it alot where I live. There is many hills here and I use it to down shift unstead of riding my brakes. It really works great for this. I find straight out runs it is better to let the auto do its thing, but winding roads are really fun with the TAP. The car really handles well,, and if you do push it too much the comp G traction control takes over quite well... I ALMOST rear ended a fool that was at a complete stop over a hilly turn and cut the wheel soooooo hard with max brake that if I was not in this car I know the rear would have broke and I would have slid out into him! THe traction control display came on and it took over the braking to prevent this! Also this traction control will allow wheel spin in a standing WOT start without taking over too soon, which I like, but if you are in a turn doing this it will take over sooner. I bought the extended warrentee on mine and LATER found out that on average they break even at about $800 per warrentee. I paid the 1700! Try to get that down if you can. Unless your credit is just terrible you should be able to get the GMAC 4.9% like I did.... Good luck!

Compg

I have been driving my 2004 COMPG for about 14 months now. Besides two TSBs (technical service bulletins) I really have not had any problems. The car is fun to drive. The torque between 20-60 MPH is very nice. The seats are comfortable over long distantces and the handling is pretty good for a front wheel drive car. The only real downside is that the COMPG suspension can be hard at times, especially as it gets colder outside. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

How is it in snow? How much did you pay for it and how much did you get it down by the dealers asking price.

Not sure about the snow part? hasnt happened here yet.
dealer was asking 19900 but I was firm on wanting to pay 14000. They kept going back and forth with me over that, first saying 17700 was the best they could do. And that was with a trade in on my 1992 caddy STS! I said no 14000, and they came back with 15900. I said nope. try again,, went on back and fort for another hour or so and finally got it to 14500. I said better but let me sleep on it. They could not believe I would not do it for that! Called the next day and said OK for the 14500. And that was including a 2500 trade in for my old caddy......

Re: 2OO4 Pontiac Grand Prix

I like that when you basically sell the car to yourself. Good move. I dont have a trade-in and would like to spend around your amount. Im doing a 4-8k down payment and have a deal worked out with the local dealer. I can find the pontiac I want in my price range off ebay or wherever. Theyll buy it for me do the maintinace and offer me a warrenty and such. So thats what ill probably do
i can get one for about 12-15k and then ill do a downpayment and finance the rest. Do you know anything else about the financeing? Anything else about the general funness of the car? Smooth ride? The GT was a real head turner this must be better. Hows it sound with the supercharger winding up? I gotta go to work. Let me know. Thanks

Re: 2OO4 Pontiac Grand Prix

I read the other posts and agree with everything.

I love my gtp. I also have the comp g, and it's the best car I've ever owned. I got my car when they first came out in April of '03, and I've never had a complaint. I love the tap shifters, although I don't use them often. I love the get up and go. I love that it's great in the snow (something that's practically 12 months a year here). I love the supercharger whine. It sounds even more incredibly once you get a intake and better box on the car.

It's an incredible car to drive. Even if you don't think you'd like one, drive one. You'll change you're mind.

There's so much more I could say about the car. You'll get such a better deal now that the cars have been out for awhile. I paid a huge load of money for mine, but new gtp's are going for pretty good prices. I'd take up another one for sure.

Re: 2OO4 Pontiac Grand Prix

I really dont notice my supercharger making any noise. Which sux,, I would like to hear it,, I guess when my warrentee is gone I will do some mods to it.. No snow here in Birmingham. BUt like I said before going down hills using the tap shifter is a big help. I bet I get twice the life out of my brakes doing this, only thing wrong with mine right now is the damn Onstar antenna leaks BAD! My whole cup holder was full this morning! Going in Wed. to the deal to test my warrentee (I cant spell)

Re: 2OO4 Pontiac Grand Prix

Yea I got a huge hill by my house ill remember that tap shift trick. I personally think onstars pretty useless. Except for remote unlock. Good to hear its good on snow cause we get plenty of that here. hmm maybe ill get a second job at a pontiac dealership and work soemthing out early. I plan to buy febuary. That sounds like a god idea. Any thoughts on this. Lookin like it has everything I want the size, reliability, fun, looks, and power.

Re: 2OO4 Pontiac Grand Prix

If you are going to buy in this year, I'd put a hold on the Grand Prix and get the new GXP Bonneville. Unless the Grand Prix name is what you really want.

Franks: Sorry to hear about your antenna! Mine doesn't leak, and hopefully it doesnt. Do you ahve any other problems with yours? My waranty is done, and I've done some mods, so you'll have to do that too as soon as yours is up!

No other real problems except my recycle air is not working,, stuck on fresh air,,,that is the only other thing,, I am going to bring it in and have it fixed for free,,,,
You can buy another waranty for your car if it has under 100K on the dial... There is a few companies out there,, do a search

Re: 2OO4 Pontiac Grand Prix

alright down to the final two. 2OO4 pontiac grand prix or 2OO4 subaru wrx. not sti. Only think that pushes me from the GP is the no maualk tranny. I guess tap shifts fine. ANd even though the reliability seems great I still question it cause american. I can get a much better deal on the pontiac. Let me know what you think.
