no spark no noid?

I have an 88 Bonny, just put a new timing chain in it about 2 months ago. Then it started stalling and wouldn't start. The mechanic said there is no spark and no noid? I guess this means there is fuel pressure (new fuel pump about a year ago) but there is injection at the appropriate time. He checked the crank position sensor (replaced a year ago) and it didn't start, so now he wants to pull it apart to look at the cam sensor if I understand it correctly. There are no codes from the computer so I guess this suggest it isn't the ecm. Anybody have ideas why this might be? I'm a little anxious (and frankly pissed) at the thought that he will have to tear things open again when this is probably going to end up being a small part that could have been replaced last time (assuming it even ends up being the cam sensor). Anyways, I'm hoping you can give me some ideas why I would lose both spark and noid at the same time and trouble shoot this a little before he puts in a half days labor for possibly no reason. We also replaced the mass airflow sensor about 6 months ago. Thanks.

Re: no spark no noid?

If he scans it and there is no rpm signal when cranking, the crank sensor or wiring or icm is suspect, this is basic diagnostics with this condition, no one should have to tell him this. I assume he checked the pcm fuses.

Re: no spark no noid?

I encountered a problem where my 93 Bonneville would cut out and die driving down the road. The first time it happened I replaced the crank sensor and 2 days later it happened again. It had no spark to the plugs but the coils tested fine, the ignition control module tested fine and the wiring from the crank and cam sensors checked good. I discoverd that on the connector for the ICM the last 3 wires which are used for ignition feed (in), sensor feed (out), and sensor ground (out) the connectors had opened up which allowed an intermittent connection. I smashed down on the connectors which closed them allowing good connections to the pins on the ICM. Problem solved!
