2002 Trail Blazer Wheel Noise

My wife has a 2002 Trail Blazer which I seldomly drive. However the other night after stopping for a red light I felt a grabbing or ginding noise in the left rear wheel area. It felt almost like a spline shaft that had stripped teeth. I pulled the rear wheels and have not seen anything unsual. I did lube the caliper slides and re-drove it and again heard and felt the same. Any ideas?

Pull the rotor and look for worn out metal to metal parking brake shoes, problems with this mechanism not releasing is causing the shoes to drag and wear.
