replacing wheel studs

My wife said the van was making a "noise" So when I got home and drove it I heard a rattle from the RF wheel. I popped of the cap and 4 of the 5 studs were broke. I had new tires put on an I figure they were not torqed right. Now I have to replace the studs and the haynes manual has no info on them. Do I pound them out or screw out. The ones I replaced in the past had to be beat out.

Re: replacing wheel studs

They will need to be pressed/beat out and back in.

It might be easier to just buy a new rotor though unless you have a hydraulic press handy. That's on my listof things to build before too long....

Pull the rotor, get it up on a vice and pound the studs out. Get new studs and pound them back in. (Hint: a little fire may be in order). And yes, the tire shop should reimburse you for the studs and any other damage that may have occured. Take pictures before repairing. Or, call a tow truck and have it dumped on their front door for free repair.

Re: replacing wheel studs

I agree. Definitely take pics before you start the work and show it to the shop owner/manager.

I was able to pound them out, went to auto zone and got their "replacement" studs and they are to sloppy. I am going to have to go to a real store to get correct studs.
