Softer ride
Does anyone know if I can buy aftermarket shocks and springs that would give a softer ride than I currently have. Recetly the ride quality had gotten pretty bad and it has improved a lot after fitting some better (touring) tires and also having the wheels balanced but I wondered if there were any changes I could make to the suspension also.
Anyone tried KYB shocks. |

Because of the car's weight, and really short wheelbase, there's not much you can do about the ride quality besides getting tires with a gigtantic sidewall. KYB struts will actually make the ride a bit more firm, but more controlled.

One of the easiest ways to get a softer ride is to run your tires with the minimum air pressure. It will give slightly less milage but a better ride

Re: Softer ride
not sure what type car your running but if its the metro with the 12" tires you can make ride a little nicer by going to a set of 13" rims and tires

It is 2000 LSi so the default size is 13". I was wondering whether to try 14" but no one on any of the forums seem to have tried it - at least I did not get any replies. I have fitted some Kumho touring A/S tires which I bought online and had my local Walmart fit them. So far they seem to be the best tires as far as ride quality and the car remains pretty stable at over 90mph. I used to get a lot of wheel vibrations with the previous tires I have fitted and they wre not as smooth. I was wondering whether to get P165s (instead of 155s) but decided agaist it in case they did not fit since I got them online and with the bother of returning them.
But it seems like not much can be done for the suspension! |
