I finally got my SI...

My '91 Accord is finally starting to faulter, so it was time to get a new(er) car.
I found an older lady with an '99 SI for sale. Pristine! Factory floor mats -- I can't believe how awesome those things are... silly, but they are one of my favorite pieces of the car -- 50K miles, all the upkeep, perfect carfax, no mods, a LOW price, and no rip/tears/burns/scratches inside or out. I couldn't pass it up, so I finally have my SI after searching for months for an unmodified, never-abused SI. Eventhough I'm disappointed after reading about the '06 SI. But oh well-- I love the thing.
Ok, that being said. Do all SI drivers notice that the SI badge somehow creates bitterness and envy for other drivers? I have never been cut-off, had people speed up just to cut me off, raced at almost every other light, and generally envied as much as I have have in the past three weeks. I use envy, because I can't figure out what the hell else could be the problem with these other drivers!??
Three weeks, and it still amazes me. I almost got to the point where I was going to remove the SI badge just for the surprise factor.
I don't know. Maybe it's all civics, or sportier Hondas, since I sometimes get a-holes galore when driving my girlfriends EX.
It just gets annoying because I didn't get the car because it's some kind of horse-power beast, but because it is so much fun FOR ME to drive. These kind of encounters do make some kind of boost more appealing though

Re: I finally got my SI...

when i looked back on the two si's ive owned, i just see a civic with a b16 in it with a lip and upgraded oem suspension.

overall, if it wasnt for it being the only coupe in the us that came with a b16 out of the factory, there wouldnt really be anything special about it to me, because, you can easily put a b16 in any civic chassis. what makes it special to me is that after years of the b16s existince, they finally put a b16 into a coupe.

I never give an Si a second thought, going down the road... but my car is pretty modified and it's usually the other drivers trying to get me to race or think I'm trying to race when I speed up to change lanes and catch my exit.
Si means nothing special where an engine swap is concerned either

Congrats on your purchase though... keep her in good condition, and post up some pics.

Exactly. It's not anything special. It's just fun for me to drive, and I refuse to purchase a newer civic (sans the 2006) because I hate the styling.
The post wasn't about the SI being anything unusual, just the idiots that it attracts. I'm fine with my civic, until I can afford my M5

Re: I finally got my SI...

The Civic 1999 Si, is the best civic to ever come along in my opinion, I just painted my front bumper and lip and my rear bumper, to make it look new, and make the electron blue pearl paint look as beautiful as it came from the factory. Its an all around really good car, ive nailed a 15.3 in the 1/4 mile, not fast for a sporty car but very fast for an NA 1.6 liter.

Great Purchase, post some pictures.

I like the SI, but I would never give it a second look on the road. With all of the WRX's, Mustangs, Vette's, etc on the road, I don't really stop to gwark at a 160 hp civic. That doesn't mean the SI isn't a great car and a good choice for anyone.

Then again, some people can be ignorant. I have had friends that won't look once, nevermind twice at a nice Corvette with an aftermarket exhaust getting on the throttle, but will go "holy ****", if they see a Civic hatch with a fart can going through the gears. I do admit I even get a lot of looks with my civic after I added the intake. I laugh a lot because some people who look(let's say a newer V6 Maxima driven by a middle aged man) would reck me, but the way my car looks now with the fancy tire tred, glossy black steelies, and the loud intake, they think I have a track whore and will have a gaping mouth.

Yesterday I backed into a spot at Walmart next to a late 80's accord with ricer tail lights. I was goosing the throttle just a bit like I usually do when I back up, so the intake was making the ricer TF&TF sound and the driver stared at me as if I had a sports car. What I am trying to say is, sleeper is the way to go. Get a stock looking exhaust and drive responsibly. It's one thing to get the second look by a guy in another car, but you don't want the second look buy cops.

Re: I finally got my SI...

Hahah...yeah of course. When we say its a very good car, we mean for the money and the year. There are many people with such nicer cars, but not in the price range of college students or many other people.

Re: I finally got my SI...

I like 99-00 civic SI's. I have one. I have also Owned a 98 Civic DX. I like Hondas in general. There are nicer cars out there, but Honda is my hobby. I have an appreciation for other cars, but it seems like most domestic owners dont have an appreciation for hondas. I dont know why. A stock mustang obviously has more HP than a stock honda, so why would a mustang owner be so proud that they beat a slightly modified honda in a "race" which I also think is something that needs to be looked at. The term "Race" is gay.....oh yeah so you "raced" from light to light or "raced" on the highway, but does it really matter? Race at a Track so you can compare what you raced today with what you race next week. I do appreciate mustangs, but I really just dont like them. Sorry I was just ranting...

Re: I finally got my SI...

So how much did the old lady end up letting her go for? I got my 98 ex for $2k, but it had decent body damage... engine and interior are perfect though.

Re: I finally got my SI...

i must mention it since no one seems to notice. the 99-00 Civic Si was NOT the first US civic to have a B16 from the factory. try the 96-97 Civic del Sol. the del Sol VTEC came with the B16. and everyone calls it the del slow.

edit: and it weighed 300lbs less.

not to continue being an ass, but wut do u consider the del Sol? it's a 2 door, non-hatchback, non-convertible.

edit: ah, oh-well to each his own. i consider it a coupe, others may not. oh well. like i said i only brought it up cuz no one else did. and back into my hole i shall crawl...

The '99 Civic Si weighed over 2800 lbs? Meh.

Everyone calls it the del slow becuase it is a funny play on words and it is indeed slow. I mean, maybe fellow stock honda owners such as myslef shouldn't call it the del slow, but certianly anyone who can break into 14's has the right to call it slow. And odds are, if you are the average joe who likes fast cars, you will probably start out with something faster than a Del Sol.
