Red face runs and then doesn't

I'm in service, and the wife back home is having issues with the Jeep. The Jeep is a 1989 4.0 automatic wagoneer.

Before I left the only thing that didn't work on this thing was the cruise control. I replaced the fuel filter, plugs, air, cap, rotor, wires, oil, oil filter.

Now it sat for about 2 months mabe 3, and that batt was dead, and when charged it didn't start and when it did, they took it to a home town mec. (family trusted) and he put tires on it, changed the oil, and looked it over, and all was well. Then it didn't start again and from what I can gather after much trying they got it going again, and took it back to the mec. He then apparently put on a new coil, and plugs, starter. Then it ran good for about 3 days started just fine ran like a champ. And today the wife calls and it will not start. I had her try it with me ont he phone and it turns over, but I don't hear it fireing at all just it turning over.

I would have to assume that the mec. checked for pressure, and for a fuel leak, and I wouldn't think its the pump, as it works due to it running for a few days, and the filter has been replaced as well (again) I don't know about spark... I'd have to get my father to check that with her.

Any ideas that I can tell my wife to have the mec. check and figure it out???

Many thanks!!

Re: runs and then doesn't

I think it could be the starter b/c the oilfilter as right next to the starter. i think it shorted it out. I would replace that. if you dont hear a clicking noice then this the starter for sure. I hope this helps.

Unhappy Not the starter

The starter was working fine when I left, and it went to the mec. and he replaced it. So I know for sure its not the starter. The motor turns over fine, but I don't know about spark, wife says she can smell gas. Like I said the Jeep will run fine, and did for about 3 days then on the 4th day it did this crap. (not start or even utter a fire here and there)
