83 hack job fix?
I picked up a 83 conv. 5.0 to "play with". car is a little rough but has potential. first of i noticed the motor mounts weren't correct. driver side had a elevated mount but passenger side had a flush mount. (yes motor sat in car tipped to one side). I didn't think much of it other than who ever did it should not be allowed to play with tools. Anyway, now that i've looked at this closer i found a jewel of a hack job. and I'm scratching my head on this one.( yes, i got the car cheap)
for what ever reason the floor pan was cut to allow the trans to fit. and two if i try and and put the correct conv. 5.0 motor mount in there is no way the trans. will clear the floorpan. And thats strange considering someone alllready hacked on it to get in.. what the hell happen here? I'm a bit puzzled on this one. what am i missing? I know it's going to be obvious when i find it. whats the reason for the different motor mounts between a 5.0 hardtop and a conv. ? i know the answer to this mess starts here. and obviously I need to get the right side of the motor up to use the correct motor mount. the added twist to this (no pun intended) is the transmission appears to be correct for the car.. At first I thought maybe it was going to be a transmission issue but it turned out to be a stock manual for the car. so my next thought was they moved the motor back. well, that doesn't appear to be the situation because the transmission is in the correct location. And the motor seems to be in the correct location. besides a mess what the hell is going on here? |

Re: 83 hack job fix?
I think what you got there man is that it was probably a v-6 car from the factory. And the 5.0 swaps dont work on the early fox bodies with 6s. Unless of course you tear the crap out of the car....as seems to be the case.
Go here www.corral.net/forums and find the appropriate room and they can help you alot more than I. just keep on them and someone will answer sooner or later but im pretty sure what i said at first is the case. |
