Smile My New 99' firebird... question

Hi, my name is Justin. I am 18 and I just purchased a 99' Trans AM 5.7L. I had a few questions about the car. I was wondering if it is a formula or a trans am. When I did a CARFAX report, it came up as 1999 PONTIAC FIREBIRD FORMULA/TRANS AM 5.7L V8 PFI OHV ALUM. What is the HP/Torque/Weight? Ram Air Intake? I really do not know very much about cars, just enough to get by. But any help will be very much appreciated.

Re: My New 99' firebird... question

Soon I will be making a post named "My New WS6" ... Lol... Wish I could do it right now... but its pretty tough finding a well kept WS.6 around here, might take me some time till I find what I'm looking for...

Back to the topic. To tell you the truth, I dont really know if there is any real segnificant difference between the TA and a Formula...

You gotta wait till Mr. Luos comes in here, he should be able to answer that question for ya...

Oh and one more thing...

Congrats on the buy! Hope you enjoy the car!

Re: My New 99' firebird... question

Congrats on the purchase!!

Where are your foglights?? Centered or located further out??
If it is listed as a Trans Am, most likely it is one.
Formula's had the outer foglights, while the Trans Am's had ones much more centered.

Re: My New 99' firebird... question

To make it easier for ya.. If you have the high rise spoiler, then it's a Trans Am. If you have the spoiler that's pretty much flat down in the back, then it's a Formula. Do you not have the badges on the side of your doors that say "Trans Am" or "Formula"? Normally those would tell you right away what it is.

Ok, well my fog lights are infact in the center and the spoiler is lifted. The emblems are removed from the car. Thankyou for your help =). I was also wondering if and at what speed does the gov kick in? I am too scared to try to find out myself... I'd rather do it when I know the car a little more.

Re: My New 99' firebird... question

I have had my WS.6 for over 3 years now. I have never had it over 130 MPH. No need.
It should be governed around 157 MPH.

The fastest I go now is at the track.

GM was claiming the top speed of the ws6 and the ss is 155 mph, but I take that with a grain of salt, just look at the way they rate horespower.

Remove the limiter and they should go about 167 MPH.

Cool. I took it up to 130... it scared the smell off of my feet. I really do not have any desire to die yet, so that is the fastest i'll take it. I dont think it is a WS6; it does not have the hood with the ram air scoop. It does have ram air however. The owner before me took off any decals on it, and dressed up the engine a little. I do not know if it has any aftermarket performance parts on it because I dont know how it would look if it was stock. Is there a easy way to tell a WS6 T/A from a T/A?

Re: My New 99' firebird... question

WS.6 Trans Am = has the hood like my car in my sig.
Trans Am - Flat hood, no nostrils.

Provided no one has messed with the car, check your wheel size. Ws6 cars came with 17 inch wheels, the trans am's came with 16 inch wheels.
