Borla really worth the price tag...? Damn...

So, im in the market for a full catback this time, i got a flowmaster (just the muffler) awile back just to see what it would sound like, sounded pretty nice, now im ready to go with the full system.
Looking around on summit, ive heard nothing but good things about borla, also flowmaster.. BUT ive heard flowmaster isnt so great for f-bodys, but just 2 days ago my friend got his flowmaster american thunder catback put on his v6, and it sounded amazeing...
I have the 305, 92 RS, and looking around.. i found something very interesting.. A $500 increase between flowmaster and borla...
So the question is... is borla really worth that $800? If so what exactly makes it worth that?
I am looking for the deep but loud muscle car sound that flowmaster is known for, but the straight through airflow for a bit of an increase in hp that borla is known for.. what exactly is the better choice here.. I have the money for the borla system, im just curious why its so damn expensive...

Re: Borla really worth the price tag...? Damn...

borla is expesive because of a few reasons

1. what its made of (will outlast the life of your car)
2. sound quality and ability to change sound pitch
3. great flow = more hp
4. etc...

Yeah i noticed borla was the only one i could find that you were able to actually adjust the pipe to change sound and flow, liked that...
They all claim to outlast the life of your car though.. lol, borla does have the million mile warrenty or something though doesnt it?
Does it really sound that much better then the others?

get the GMMG Chambered exhaust. or if you want something a little less expensive you can go for the texas-speed.com cat-back for 300. I have a CORSA which I LOVE but it's up there with the price of BORLA only it's pretty quiet during idle and not as loud as you'd probably want during WOT. I like it, it has a great tone, but with you liking flowmaster so much I'm assuming corsa wouldn't fill your cup of tea soundwise. But it gives great performance.

Re: Borla really worth the price tag...? Damn...

Yeah i am kinda looking for something pretty loud all around, i love the idleing sound, so i want to magnify that, flowmaster lacks in that department, it has a nice sound on the acceleration, but not much just sitting there, thats my favorite part, so i want something with great acceleration sound, and also good idleing sound also, would borla be the right direction?

Re: Borla really worth the price tag...? Damn...

I asked this same question over at another forum, everyone over there is saying borla has sloppy welds on the flanges, and are known for messing up the finishes... anyone also heard this?

They're probably referring to the weding of the plate at the cutout here:
http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...90_55_full.jpg

I don't have an actual picture of the weld job, but in all honesty, I wasn't really pleased with it. It did look pretty sloppy. But, I figured.. who's gonna be lookin at it anyway? It'll be under the car, out of sight. So I could care less. Though I have seen in some cases that the pipe actually extended out further than the plate, which prevented you from attaching the exhaust tip or adjustable plate. That's just a simple fix though which you can grind right off.

It's really nothing that should deter you away from Borla. If you're interested in Borla and want to try and find a cheap cat-back system, then you should check out eBay. I've said it before and I'm sure everyone's gettin tired of me sayin it, but I got my cat-back for $555. And, the best thing about it was that I got it from RKSport. So I knew I wasn't gonna have to worry about being screwed over. It was apparently an item a customer ordered but never picked up. So they sold it on eBay.

In my opinion, Borla is NOT worth the money. Neither is GMMG.

Magnaflow is much cheaper and flows right with those two.

Re: Borla really worth the price tag...? Damn...

Magnaflow is out of the question, heard it, to bassy for me... and after seeing most of their products on ricers, its given me a bad opionon about then ontop of that...

As for the borla sloppy welds, i dont have a problem with it, it wouldnt be something that would turn me away from the pruduct, since your arnt going to see it like you said, but damn, for $900 youd think they would take some time to make sure it is one of the nicest looking exhaust systems...

Also, about how far out does thoe tailpipes hang out of the car, i like the ones that are kinda hanging out a bit so you can see them
