1986 camaro engine swap, need advice
hey guys, i just bought a 1986 camaro sport, v6 2.8.... i had to, it was immaculate, not a scratch, spot of rust, original paint shines perfect. bought it off the original owner, he cried when i took it. anyway... obviously, i want to turn this thing into the IROC that i originally wanted
here's my dilemma: do i go with the 350 tuned port, or just settle for a crate or jasper 350 with a carbed setup? if i go with a tuned port, will my sensors, wiring harness, and tranny work with it? or do i have to go scour junk yards for the pieces parts? if so, wouldn't it just be easier to settle with a reconditioned jasper engine, that comes with the carbourator, air cleaner, and all? and just ditch the whole computer system? how big of a gas mileage difference would there be between the two? and as far as horsepower goes, i can get a 5.0 from crate or jasper that pushes 300HP, the TPI 350 irocs only pushed about 240, i think..which makes more sense?
also, i'm obviously going to have to change out my front end coils, exhaust, and i'd want a posi-trac rear end, what else would i have to do?
and as far as the iroc body kit goes, should i just buy a new generic kit off ebay or something? or should i find a good body shop, and have them find a kit from another iroc of the same year? would any 82-92 body kit fit up to my 86?
i'm new to this board guys, and i'm planning to start this project fairly soon, any honest help would be really appreciated...
