Cruise Control ON Switch

Just bought a 2000 Alero GLS at an auction and found a number of small issues. No big surpirse. Blower resister pack needs replacing and when I press the ON switch, on the cruise control, the light only illuminates when the button is held down. Release the button and light goes out. Also, the cruise control will not set. However, if I hold the ON button down, the cruise control will set when I press the set button. Stuffed a piece of paper between the ON button and button housing, thus sticking the button in the ON position, and the cruise control worked fine for the entire 120 miles back from the auction. Is it the switch itself that is malfunctioning or something else? Anyone else had this problem.

Re: Cruise Control ON Switch

It sounds like the switch is bad and not holding in the on position. If the cruise itself was bad it would not work properly when you held the button in the on position. Replace the switch and everything should work normally.
