power window mechanism on 92 grand am

Hi,
I'm getting my 92 Grand Am back from my brother. I gave it to him in 99 to use for college and now that he's out he doesn't need it anymore. It has one problem that I want to try and fix.

He had to replace the power window mechanism on the drivers side a couple years ago and it is now broken again. According to his description, it's a scissor like mechanism. He had a shop do the work so he doesn't know too much about it.

Is this a common problem? THe part cost around $200 so I don't want to waste money fixing it if it's going to break again in two years. I'm thinking if the new one broke so soon there must be binding somewhere else in the PW set-up.

Don't know if this info is relevant to the situation, but it's an SE model, 2 door, 3.3V6 auto, ~165k miles.
