Exclamation H22 Prelude Engine in a Pontiac Fiero

I own a 1984 Pontiac Fiero in which the rod was thrown through the oil pan. Now, I've been contiplating over which engine I should use to replace it with. Recently, I've heard that Honda Prelude H22 can fit inside the engine compartment. If anyone knows any information on this, please notify me.

H22 Swap

Yes, of course an H22 will fit. They drop 400 cu engines in there. Your consideration is bolting it to the Fiero tranny or setting in a Honda/Acura Tranny.

If you use the stock tranny you will need an adapter plate. There is a website that tells exactly what engine bolt up, but unfortunately I cant remember it off had. I dont think an H22 will. Im also pretty sure there are no after market adapter plates. But you should check because I often hear ppl talking about a Honda swap, so maybe someone actually has built an adapter plate. If not, it is a costly and time consuming process to have one fabricated.

That would leave using a Honda transaxle, which would mean the possibility of of custom drive axles.....possibly you could find a particular set that would work......but you are probably going to have them custom built...more expense.....

Interested project. I have heard it mentioned before and would love to see it done. Keep searching the net....it probably has been done.

sounds like someone got smoked by a japcrap rice rocket...

the H22 is a great engine, but im not sure it belongs in a fiero. there are plenty of domestic engines to swap in, like, for instance, a V8

i finally completed my swap, just a 3.1 with a cam. This thing is a monster now. I push a little more then 150tq and 200hp (H22) and my powerband comes in way faster, but from a roll I'm iffy, but real racing doesn't happen from a roll.

Re: H22 Prelude Engine in a Pontiac Fiero

Of course, you could always build a "real" 2.5 SD and smoke all of 'em! GM Performance catelog has a ton of goodies for 2.5. It's currently outlawed in many 4-cylinder classes because it's not fair... Don't fall for the "it's a POS" line. It only lasted 20 years in YOUR P-body... and that was with an inadequate oil supply suffered by all 4-cylinder Fieros!

The upside? No adaption necessary.
