Revells Ford Escort MKII?

Hello iam kind of new here. Some years ago i build a couple of Tamiya rallycars (Lancer evo, Ford Escort Cosworth, Ford Focus WRC, Toyota Corolla WRC and the Subaru Impreza) I was going to build more but there was no time. After looking for some time in this forum i wanted to start build again.

So the kit i have ordered is the Revell Escort MKII RAC winner 1979 (1/24).

I wonder if someone else has this kit and if it is good?

I will post som images when the box arrives to me.

Thanks for a good forum and some very nice models!

In my opinion, having built at least four of these in the past, and having three more in my stash:

The kit design is very old, I think early eighties. Generally the fit is bad and the parts are covered in flash. The rear suspension is completely wrong and the front is too narrow.
BUT, with modification to correct the front track width, the result is good. The bodyshell looks in great proportion, there's quite a bit of engine detail and, which always counts for a lot, it's a favourite car of mine.

Thank goodness Revell re-released this kit, there are now a number of alternative liveries available from Studio27 (including the iconic Rothmans/Vatanen scheme) and Renaissance and it's cheap! Really must build another.

I am just wondering about the engine. According to Revell it is a BDA engine but when i looked at the results from RAC 1979 it said that Hannu drove a RS1800.

BDA is correct. The original Escort model was the RS1800, fitted with a 4-cylinder 16valve "BDA"-type engine.
The engine was developed by Cosworth in the late 60s and appeared in several forms in cars such as the Mk1 Escort RS1600 and, in turbocharged form, in the aborted Escort RS1700T and the wonderful RS200.

Thanks for the info. The Cosworth BDA engine is a trully master engine. Not much that beats the sound of the roaring carbs on full thottle trough the woods

Oh yes - I went to a number of rallies in the late 70s and that sound brings many happy memories
