My 3rd gear is real tall

Is this normal? When accelerating hard through 1st and 2nd it feels like a rocket then 3rd seems like im not even gassing it...I don't even have use for gears 4-6 when racing because even on long stretches I will rarely reach the top rpms of 3rd.

tall? idk man, my third gear gets me from 75 to 100 when i'm hitting it... rarely hit the limits of third? you mean u rarely race over 100? when are you shifting into third (mph wise)? because if you're shifting much earlier than 75 then it will feel kinda weak cuz u'll lost alot of rpms...

where's you're redline at anyway? i can rev mine to about 6200... if your redline is at 5500 then the mph of third should be somewhere in the range of 65-75 to 90-100...

what i mean by the first number is what speed you should probably enter third (when hitting it)
third on the t56 really is one of the "shorter" gears...
1st: 0-45 (45)
2nd: 45-75 (30)
3rd: 75-100 (25)
4th: 100-120 (pretty sure i shift into 5th at 120... idk for sure tho, my speedo only goes to 110 haha)

see how third actually has a smaller range than the others? i think you may be shifting early into third... or maybe you engine is just getting short winded at that speed... lt1's aren't too known for top-end...

either that or you may be hittin 5th instead of 3rd... i've done that a few times, definately makes you feel slow... 5th is wayyyy tooo tall to come after 2nd...

lol thanks. I could be shifting too early but only by a couple hundred rpm (I'm trying to stay away from high rpm, the tach gets that dotted red line at just about 5000 then it red lines at about 5500 according to the tach). It definately feels like im going 2nd to 3rd with my hand but it feels like im going into 5th. I shift and the rpms are at about 3000 then they fall for a few seconds then start coming back up.

i think u definately are shifting a lil too early if the rpms are dropping down to 3000 after the shift... i think the lowest they should go is like 3200-3500... you may be shifting into 5th, just feel it out. try shifting slow, pull the shifter out of second, let it center itself, then push it straight forward, that's should help you make sure where third is...

the gears are real close on the t56, at least alot closer than i was ever used to driving so it took me a lil while to get used to it...

I shifted into 5th the first time I started driving my brother's lancer.. it was different than his jeep and it was funny too because we're going all good, shift into 2nd, get a little more speed, shift out and INTO 5th and whoa it was slow.

Eh I don't know man, some Lancers(SOME) will keep up with STI's. My dad redlined a stock, base model(rental car) and it didn't really have much get up and go at all. There is a big difference from the base models to the nicer ones.

Well if you didnt know.. YES I did! I had to drive it to help my brother drive all the way from TEXAS to CALIFORNIA, I stopped in Las Vegas, and Reno as well, so it was fun drive.. here's pics of my brothers jeep and the lancer..

And yeah it was slow.. but it isnt like I was trying to go fast or anything, the car DID have some get up and go, but the Jeep is what mainly made the trip slow as he could only go up to 70-80 because whoever put on those tires didnt change the transmission so it can only go so fast. Also you should go with your car on the road from Reno the the middle of California, dude its fun as HELL going through the turns and up and down in elevation. Believe me

DUDE I love you. I feel stupid in a way but I'm sure you could see why i was making a mistake. I WAS shifting into 5th, when i was moving up from 2nd i went right then up...but in my car the stick automatically ends up under 3rd after getting out of 2nd...i was in neutral and going right then up thinking i was still above 2nd. I am using your technique of moving it up and letting go then pushing it forward and it works dandy. 3rd gear really is a good gear like you said, 1-2-3 is much cooler than 1-2-5 :P

Thats not really his technique.. I do it too.. actually im sure thats what all of us do because if you let it go a little and let the stick go back and center itself it goes right under 3rd.. BUT anyway congrats on finally going 1-2-3..
