98 cherokee trans range sensor malfunction
Recently I ran very low on water and blew my engine up (4.0) I put a jasper engine in and now have problems with my trans. My check engine light comes on occasionaly and I have gone to autozone to get it checked and the code that comes up is (trans range sensor malfunction) now I called the jeep dealer and they said that I dont have a range sensor on my vehicle. How can the computer say that it is malfunctioning and it not be there. Also when I stop at a light I have growling in the trans. I can put it in neutral and it stops put it back in to drive and it stays away. Take off from a light and it seems like it doesnt want to shift like it use to before I replaced the engine. Please someone help me out here.

Re: 98 cherokee trans range sensor malfunction
try starting your engine up in either R or D; if it starts up, then your "range sensor" or neutral safety switch is bad. As far as the bogging, your torque converter sounds like it's going bad.
