Question 2000 GTP Radio Question

Does anyone know whether the stock CD-player in the 2000 GP has an AUX input jack on the back? I'm trying to figure out whether there's an easy and worthwhile way to direct-connect my iPod to the existing sound system, since the FM modulators don't work very well. And, if there is an AUX jack, is it easy enough for an amateur like me to get at?

I pulled out my CD-radio off my 01 GT last night. There is no AUX input on the back of mine. However, there is another open socket/connector on the bottom-center of back-plate (possibly for cd-changer or other)...

Re: 2000 GTP Radio Question

Thanks for the response! I've never attempted anything like this. Is it difficult to get at the radio? I think I have to remvoe the dash panel, no?

yea the front plastic beizel peice comes off (i think thats what its called) anyways you have to pull it off gently, its held on by clips, be careful when pulling it off not to crack anything, it comes off in one whole peice, its easiest to start pulling it off from the top, then youll see the radio screws.

I took me less than 10 minutes to get to the radio...

Just unscrew the 2 phillip screws on bottom panel and pull the 2-piece panel toward you while sitting on driver seat (there is a small light bulb that you have to unattach here, dont burn you fingers!).
Pull gently at the fog lamp area. Once the front trim is separated (an inch or 2) continue clock-wise and there are about 8 metal clips on the trim...
Disconnect the fog lamp wire.
Lower the steering column and pull the trim out (I had to twist the trim a little to get it out).
The radio is held on by 2 phillip screws and undo them.

Re: 2000 GTP Radio Question

The extra plug on the back of the radio is for the factory cd player and steering wheel controls. There is no "easy" way to hard wire an iPod into a factory stereo, your options are aftermarket stereo or FM modulator.

Re: 2000 GTP Radio Question

There are technically two extra plugs, one a 4-prong that is grouped with the main harness plug(for the steering controls) and another separate one for the CD changer, I stand corrected and should have been more specific.

Thanks, everyone. Sounds like I can get to it, but it won't help much. Guess it's time for a new car!

Adapter to fit

You may check for an adapter, I am in the process of retrofitting a Warner Bros. entertainment center into a Transport, and I have seen harness that plug into the 9 pin conneter with RCA jacks so there may be hope for you yet. Try installer.com
