Passlock - Security problem

I am having the no start problems with my 97 Olds Achieva (turn key, engine turns over but dies, security light flashes for about 10 minutes, car will start following that wait). Looking through the forum, I see this is pretty common. I had a remote starter put in two years ago, which had this problem a few times the first winter but I did not think much of it at the time. The problem never occurred unless I used the remote starter to try to start the car. The same was true for the second winter (last year). However, this year I am now having the no start issue when I turn the car over with the key in addition to the remote. It happens about 2-4 times a week (10-20% of attempted starts). I had an after market CD player installed in April, which seems to have coincided with the timeline the car has begun to not start. The no start problem has progressively became worse since May-June to the best of my memory...

So here are my questions. Will removing either/both the CD player and remote starter fix the problem? Will I need to remove whichever is causing or caused the problem, then have the passlock system replaced? Is there any recall that is relevant at this point? Any advice at all is greatly appreciated!!

Thanks in advance,
'Stranded by the 10' Steve

PS. I originally posted this in the wrong forum but deleted it and reposted here...
