99 F150 no fuel pressure
I have a 99 F150 V6 that has been parked/not driven for two years, and it was running fine when it was parked. In an attempt to start the truck, the motor will rotate, but the engine will not start. The truck will start and run as long as fuel or starting fluid is sprayed into the intake.
Computer shows no stored codes with diagnostic check. Replaced fuel filter. Checked the inertia switch, all associated relays and fuses, and they are all fine. Removed gas cap and the fuel pump can be heard running for about one second. We have a 2000 F150 V6, and we removed the gas cap from it and we could hear the fuel pump running for 4-5 seconds. While holding in the schrader valve on the fuel rail, fuel will come out with minimal force each time when you turn the key to the on posistion for about a second, and if you attempt to crank the engine, no fuel will come out. I'm thinking that the fuel pump is ok. I was wondering if there is something that sends a signal to the fuel pump that is faulty and not allowing the fuel pump to run. Thanks A lot! PC |

Don't know too much about '99's, but is there a pump mounted on the frame below the cab also?

there is no fuel pump on the frame. they did away with that around 96 on gas engines. if you have no fuel pressure it will not run, sounds like you have slight fuel volume but no pressure. check and see what your fuel pressure is. that system has a fuse, fuel pump relay that is grounded by the pcm, inertia switch, pump. it is wired in that order. did you try changing the fuel pump relay with another relay(like wipers) to see if relay has high resistance causing low voltage to pump?

theman,
Thanks... I did swap around relays and ended up taking all three out and doing a continuity check with the relays open and closed. The pump just sounds like it will barly run for a second and that is matched at the scharder valve as fuel just dose not come out with much force. I am thinking this is because the pump is just not running long enough. Do you have any other thoughts? |

Hot wire the pump either at the relay or after the inertia switch to see if I will run properly. If not I would say you need a pump.

Hey that theift light is blinking. I have never owned a ford before. Is this my fix, if so what do I do?
This is a work truck that is being given to me from our family business. Thanks a lot! |

that light flashing indicates that there is somthing wrong in your PATS system. i would say that you have a key that is wrong or it is not programed. you have to have two PATS keys to get it to work the first time. you can take it to ford(cost.. $120) or call a lock smith to come out and fix it. good luck. |
